《雅典古迹》共4卷，卷出版于1762年，其后分别于1789年和1795年出版第二卷和第三卷，很后一卷出版于1816年。1841年出版了第二版，1858年出版了第三版。《雅典古迹》还被翻译成法文、德文和意大利文。直到19世纪，它仍然是新古典主义的标志性著作。本书作者抢先发售准确测量了雅典的古希腊建筑遗迹。书中有多幅建筑物、雕塑、花瓶等装饰物的图像以及平面图。《雅典古迹》出了希腊建筑和罗马建筑之间的差异，改变了人们对希腊建筑的理解，并从根本上挑战了人们关于古典理想的主流观念，引发了此后100多年间英国、欧洲和美国建筑设计领域中的希腊复兴风潮。今据1858年版影印，以飨读者。
