Alexandre Dumas waw born in Ville-Cotterets ,France ,in 1802 ,and his father died in 1806, leaving the family in dire straits .Dumas travelled to Paris to find work ,and he first became famous for his action-packed historical plays,including Henry !!!and his court(1829)and The Tower of Nesle (1832).From 1840 ,he and his team of 73 assistants began to produce a stream of historical movels that were pubilshed in serial form ,including The Three Muskereers and The Count of Monte Cristo(both 1844-5).
Dumas was a colourful character,not unlike some of the heroes he wurte about He had an illegitimate child in 1824 ,fought in the 1830 revolution ,contracted cholera in the 1832 epidemic ,and married an actress in 1840 then left her after spending her dowry .During his lifetime he earned and spent a great deal of money and many of his later years were dominated by running awqy from creditors before he died in Dieppe in 1870.
