Around ten kilometres from Mycenae we come across the ruins of ancient Corinth. Seven Doric columns from the Temple of Apollo, which were erected in the 6th century B.C., stand out from the more ancient ruins.
On the northern side of the Agora, the vast rectangle that made up the centre of the city, you can admire the ruinsof the Spring of Pirene, the subject of many legends and mentioned in the tragedies of Euripides.
The inhabitants of Corinth, who also founded the city of Syracuse in Sicily, were famous in ancient times for their opulence and for their loose habits. The Corinthian artisans and the artists produced marvellous pottery which was then sold all over the Mediterranean.

To enjoy life better after death the Egyptians took to building randiose
tombs, the typical example being the pyramid. The one we are seeing, in Saqqarah, is the first pyramid built in Egypt. Imothep, the first architect whose name has been passed down by history, developed the now abused idea of the tomb in the form of a parallelepiped. He put a smaller tomb on a bigger one, in succession, rising upwards, until he had come to invent the pyramid.
