内容简介

《大学英语》系列教材(全新版)听说教程是一套为21世纪大不非英语专业学生编写的教程。该教程旨在帮助学生增强在语篇水平上的理解能力;提高他们对所听材料的分析、归纳、判断和推理能力;全面培养学生听的能力和口头表达能力。

Home Listening(1) Gunslinging (持枪) in America
Gunslinging is a social problem in the United States. Sam Walker was not an average American gun owner, for he had no interest in hunting at all. The average gun owner owns at least three guns, but Walker owned only one, which friends persuaded him to buy for the sole purpose of protecting himself and his family in their suburban Houston home. Walker didn't even particularly like guns. He still hadn't known much about his new weapon when his burglar alarm went off one weekday morning last December. His security company notified (通知) him of a break-in. Walker rushed home from work, quietly entered the house, took the gun out from the place where he had left it for safekeeping, and, hearing a noise, moved stealthily up the stairs and opened a closet door.
