Key Qualities of an Abstract　　By definition an abstract is an abbreviated， accurate representation of the contents ofa document， withoutadded interpretation or critiasm and without distinction as to who wrote the abstract.As it contains general orbackground information， many readers may decide if they should continue to read the entire paper.Therefore，an abstract should have the following central qualities：　　（1） Brevity： An abstract provides the reader with a brief preview of the study based on information fromother sections of the paper.Usually the length of an abstract is 100—300 words depending on differentpublications.　　（2） Accuracy： Choose the exact words needed to get a precise meaning across to the readers.　　（3） Speaficity： It should not contain citations to sources nor should it make reference to any tables orfigures in the paper.　　（4） Objectivity： An abstract is written for the purpose of succinctly summarizing the main points of anytext as objectively as possible.　　（5） Informativeness： An abstract should not be a table of contents nor should it be an introduction.It should be informative.The abstract tells the reader what the research was about， how it wasundertaken and what was discovered， but not how the paper is organized.The main findings must besummarized.　　……
