作者简介

托克维尔(Alexis de Tocqueville,1805-1859)是法国十九世纪著名历史学家和思想家,主要代表作有《论美国的民主》、《旧制度与大革命》等。他出身法国贵族世家,一生经历过五个“朝代”,青年时代热心政治,1838年出任众议院议员,1848年二月革命后参与制订第二共和国宪法,1849年一度出任法国外交部长。1851年法兰西第二帝国建立,托克维尔因反对路易-拿破仑?波拿巴称帝而被捕,因名气太大而被释放。后来他对政治日渐失望,于是逐渐淡出政治舞台,主要从事历史研究。1789年大革命爆发以来,法国相继陷入雅各宾派的革命专政与两个拿破仑的军事独裁,对此托克维尔深感困惑。他一直思考法国大革命这场“民主革命”为何“反噬”自由,于是写作了《旧制度与大革命》。该书在他去世之前就已经再版了四次,而且相继被译为多种语言,在全世界传播。
